Artist Comments
The indigenous Hawaiian Crow is critically endangered. The species had been extinct in the wild since 2002, but thanks to the Alalā Restoration Project, a collaboration between the State of Hawaii, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the San Diego Zoo, in 2016 a small population of captive bred and raised birds was reintroduced to the wild. This painting was part of a juried group exhibition celebrating the Alala's return.
